Activity groups urged to sign up to new directory

Voluntary and community groups are being asked to join a community directory which can be used by GP s and health practitioners across Fylde and Wyre.
The new directory will help health professionals steer patients towards activities such as mother-and-toddler groups, dance groups and walking groups – so a directory listing could mean more members and subscriptions for organisers.
Wendy Jackson, for Blackpool, Wyre and Fylde Council for Voluntary Services which is compiling the directory, said: ‘The area has hundreds of activities such as walking, dancing, reading and gardening taking place every week and doctors are keen to steer people their way.
‘The trouble is that GPs and other health professionals do not always know who is doing what. We’re asking people who run not-for-profit organisations to get in touch with us so that we can list their activities and venues in the new directory.
‘It will be a great help to doctors and patients as well as helping organisers publicise their activities – and even boost their membership numbers and income. It is entirely free for all concerned and only takes five minutes to arrange the listing.
‘Leading an active life is hugely important in staying healthy and happy. The NHS helps medically but there are groups in just about every church hall, scout hut and community centre that are already doing great work.
‘Everyone can be a winner as hundreds of health professionals in the area will be using the directory.’
People and organisations wishing to be included in the directory are asked to download and complete the form by clicking: http://www.cvsbwf.org/9007-fylde-and-wyre-community-directory-open-for-entries/ and returning to Angela Glass at: [email protected]
